Recreation facilities and programs help foster a sense of community and promote social bonds by uniting families, encouraging cultural sensitivity, and supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities. Sense of Community A lifelong love for learning & acquiring knowledge fosters creativity, curiosity, and intellectual wellness.Intellectual Wellness Open space, parks, and recreation areas are ideal for forging a strong connection to Cupertino’s natural environment and for encouraging and developing stronger steward-ship of the land. This increased exposure helps people understand how their personal actions can affect the environment.Environmental Stewardship Community EngagementParks & Recreation System Master Plan will guide the development, renovation, and activation of City parks, recreation facilities and trails for the next 20+ years.Volunteers are vital to meeting the recreation needs of the community. Block leaders connect neighbors and build community, as well as plan activities to increase public safety & communication. Community EngagementParks & Recreation Commission advises the City Council on municipal activities in relation to parks and recreation, including park site acquisition and development, recreation program policy, and expansion of the park program as development occurs.Teen Commission advises the City Council and staff on issues and projects important to youth.Library Commission advises the Council on the adequacy of library service within the community and such other matters relating to library service as specified by the City Council; and serves as liaison between the City and the Santa Clara County library system.
