1. Director of Parks and Re~~:tton Merle Butler introduced Rex Morton,
architect, of the firm Horton & Kolb, Loa Gatos, who presented alides
a..d drawings depicting site and design of the proposed Sen10l" center
and proposed community center. The re~ommeDded plan shows the senior
center located on the corner of Stevens Creek Blvd. an¿ Mary Avenue
and the cOIDmunity center. which is larger. located to the rear with a
100 ft. prooenade between the two buildings. The seninr center is
proposed·o be 3,500 to 5,500 sq. ft. and the co_unity center 17,500
sq. ft.
Concern was expressed regarding a wall which will be located next to
the street. Mr. Morton explained that the wall serves as a noise
barrier and its visual effect would be softened by trailing plants.
Anoth~r concern was the extent to which the prcposed centers would ob-
struct view of the park.
City Manager Quinlan pointed out that Council had two options:
l. decide to locate the senior center but not the community center
at the park site. 2. decide to locate the senior center on the park
site and delay a decision on the community center.
The concept of underground parking for the Centers was discuas~d. Thi
would allow for more parking spaces thaa the 80 as shown in the pro-
posed plans and ~ocld be developed at such time as the community
center is built.
