Staff present: City Manager Don Brown; City Clerk Kim Smith; Administrative Services Director Carol Atwood; Community Development Director Bob Cowan; City Attorney Cbarles Kilian; Park.~ a~j Recreation Director Steve Dowling; Public Infonnation Officer Donna KIey; and Pubuc Works Director Bert Viskovic:h. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CEREMONIAL MATI'ERS - PRESENTATIONS None. ELECTION OF MAYOR AND VICE-MAYOR Mayor Koppel opened nomïn.tinnc for Mayor. CouDc. Sorensen nom;.......... Wally Dean. CouDc. Burnett seconded, and the nominations were closed. Motion carried unanimously. Mayor Dean opcucd nominatioas for Vace Mayor. Counc. Bautista nom;n....... Don Burnett. Counc. Koppel seconded, and the DOIJ'i-"oas _ r.losed. Motioo carried unanimously. OATHS OF OmCE FOR MAYOR AND VICE-MAYOR The City Clerk administered the oaths of office to Mayor Wally Dean and Vice Mayor Don Burnett. COMMENTS BY COUNCIL MEMBERS November 16, 1994 Cupertino City Council "2 . Mayor Dean presented Barbara Koppel with a plaque and a photograph of Cupertino taken ftom De Anza College in thanks for her service as Mayor. He congratulated her for an outstanding job and said she had been positive and progressive, and would be tough to follow. Coone. Koppel said that the staff and community were great and she thanked everyone for a wonderful year. CoImC. Burnett offered his thanks for her leadership, and said that a 213 vote in favor of Measure A to benefit the libraries _ a testimonia1 to Counc. Koppel's effOrts. COImC. Bautista said it bad been a pleasure to work wiÚ1 her ¡-.,....... ofher leadersbip and consensus-building. and she had set positive goals for the Council. COIUlC. Sorensen said she echoed the comments of the other Council members. She said it had been a year of ups and downs for Counc. Koppel, bI.: the ups out-numbered the downs. Mayor Dean said that his goal as Mayor was to have all five members working as a team. They would not always agree, but he would work toward good communications and an effective management team to accomplish positive results. . City Manager Don Brown said that staffhad enjoyed working with Counc. Koppel. and were especia1ly thankful for her effective regiooalleadership, particularly on Highway 85 and Measure A. He predicted that Mayor Dean would be a leader in technology, economic issues, and quaIity-of-life issues facing the community.
