Burkland, who spoke briefly about the possibility of seismic activity

under the Fire Harshal.
Public Safety Commission Chairman Furd explained the City has two basic
alternatives for handling the weed problena: We have the Weed Abatement
Ordinance, or we could enter into a contractual agreement with the County
in that the Santa Clara County Fire ~4rshal's Office would have the
responsibility of weed abatement.
Fire Chief Carder expla1aed the County's weed abatement program whereby
they spray along the per 1me,ter of the properties. He recol:mlended a
10 to IS day notice be given the property owners. He thcn explained
their method of charging for this service.
The City Manager explained the~ in previClUs years the cost to the property
owners was high enough to encourage them to take care of their own weeds.
