October 16, 2018 Staff Report on Homelessness -I URGE action
CC 10-16-2018 Item No. 7
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, Councilmembers, City Clerk, City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and City
Planning Staff:
I was very interested in the repmt that was submitted for the City of Cupe1tino Homelessness Study Session. It
was heaitening to read the level of detail that was provided for the City Council to consider.
I applaud the effo1ts that our City has taken so far. From the West Valley Community Services organization to
the stait of constrnction on The Veranda Housing Development by Charities Housing earlier this year to the
approval of affordable housing in the new Vallco Tier 2 project. With our cunent BMR programs, Cupe1tino
has policies in place and sources of funds and paitners to make progress on helping the homeless in our
community. It is clear that our City has the will and the resources to reach out fu1ther to help those without
shelter.
Since 100% of the homeless individuals in Cupertino lack shelter, now is the right time to take action to provide
a "temporary shelter" program.
I urge you to build on the afford a b le housin g pro gram th at Cupe rtino h as now to ad d thi s "te mp orary sh e lter " program fo r th e
mos t vulnerable in our C ity .
Sincerely,
Connie L. Cunningham
