CALL TO ORDER
At 7:39 p.m. Chairperson Charlene Pai called the meeting to order in Conference
Room A.

Present: Chairperson Charlene Pai, Commissioners Stephen Beard, Janet Mohr,
Carl Orr, Mary Sievert, Rita Young,
Absent: Hema Kundargi

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Orr moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting March 28 as amended to
show Janet Mohr present. Sievert seconded and motion passed unanimously with
Kundargi absent.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
City Clerk reported on the Noetic Arts Program. She stated that an e-mail was
received regarding the arts online and distributed the website information to the
commission.
STAFF REPORTS
City Clerk reported on he student art show. She stated that Sylvia Tecola was
selected by commission. The mayor will observe the art and make a selection on
April 26.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Distinguished Artist of the Year
An ad hoc committee of Sievert, Mohr and Beard was formed to review
the applications for Distinguished Artist of the Year.

OLD BUSINESS
A. Cherry Blossom Festival
City Clerk stated that no assistance is needed to set up and take down the
banners. Mr. Paul Vogel has put up the banners with the help of some
high school students. Young and Pai had volunteered to get a thank you
gift for participating schools and Mr. Vogel and will report back to the
commission at the May meeting. Kundargi will speak at the festival and
Mohr will write thank you letters.
B. Commission goals
City Clerk suggested that ad hoc committees be formed to handle each of
the projects. The following ad hoc committees were formed: Sievert,
Beard and Young will work on art in public/private spaces. Pai and Orr
will work on increasing art awareness. Mohr and Ktmdargi will work on
support of visual activities.
C. Four Seasons Comer
The commission discussed their thoughts regarding each of the artists'
work.
Berry: Interactive, touchable, four seasons name, occupied space,
walkable, drop of gold, modem, visible.
Deutsch: Monumental, noticeable, silo dominates, blend of agricultural
and technology.
Gillman/Keefer: maintenance issues.
Donahue: general
The commission ranked Berry and Deutsch as their favorites, three first
choices each. Donahue and Gillman did not receive any first place
rankings.
City Clerk reported that there have been 381 visits to the website. Fifty
two written comments have been received. With the responses received so
far the public has cast 20 votes for Gillman, 19 for Berry, 9 votes for
Deutsch and 4 votes for Donahue.

A draft staff report will be prepared for the next meeting and more
community comments will be reviewed and a final report will be
completed.
COMMISSIONER AND LIAISON REPORTS
A. Representative selected to attend the Mayor's breakfast on May 9
Orr volunteered to attend.
