Councilman Frolich vas concerned, after looking at the blueprints,
whether r.he air conditioning units would be visible above the
parapet. 0Irector Sisk said it would be safe to say the roof
apurtenance~ will not be visible from any direction.
In answer to Councilman Stokes' questions, Hr. Ceorge Heu, the
architect. said the lllaterial used on the front of the buIlding is
slit-face ccncrete blQC~. Councilmaa Stokes then asked ~hy the
mansard roOf was left off one side of the buIlding. Hr. Keu said
they are aatcbing the Payless storage area; the roof is hIgber on
that side.
Mr. Andrew Berwick, P.O. Box 77143, San FrancIsco, California, saId
he was tbe applicant. He was under the impression that the entire
Coodye3~ !:~ility had a =ansard roo!. The architect poInted out
the discrepancy.
Councilman FitZlerald asked if the Sears' bays on Stevens
open on botb sides. The Plannlng Director said tbey do.

Counci1aan Stokes asked Mr. Berwick if any thought had been given to
rear-accessing tbe bays. Mr. Berwick said tbere is no way because
it vould cut off access to the Pay less loading dock. He said the
reason for doors opening on both sides is tbere are four banks of
2 bays ratber than one long string cf 8 bays.
Mr. AlIos Kraus, HillsboJcugb, California, said they want to hi4e the
entrance to tbe bays as much as possible. When you talk about no
entrance fraa the Ho.estead side and brIng the 8 bays 'way out to
Higbvay 9, then the traffic pattern is disrupted.

City is atte:pting to b~ti=y the neigbborhood which, in turn,

his property reappraised. Se said the present plan calls for the
sidewalk to be just 12 f~ froc his bedroom window. In addition

38. Resubmission of Final Payment for ''Theme Sculpture".
(Warrant withheld at meeting of June 7, 1971)
Mr. Wilfred E. Blessing, Architect and Landscape Architect,
485 North First Street, San Jose, submitted a letter dated
June 17, 1971 explaining an amount appropriate to fix any remain-
ing work on the theme sculuture should be retained and the balance
paid to the Sculptor at chis time in conformance wlth his Agreemen
Modifications have been cocpleted and the tree bases delivered
for the extensions to the cree bases. This amount should be paid
in its entirety, in accorda~ce with the contract. It was his
recommendation that the 51,000.00 be authorized for payment upon
delivery of the remaini~g twenty bases so the City Xanaber can
deliver the check to the Sculptor when he delivers the~, shortly
after July I. It was recu__ended that $200.00 be retained from
the theme sculpture account co cover any modifications, etc.
Moved by Councilman Frolich, seconded by Councilman Fitzgerald to
approve pa)-ment of $3,969.75 for the tree bases and the~e sculp-
ture.

authorize payment of bond interest and redemption for Vallco 64-1
and DeAnza 66-1 Assessaent Districts and the total amount of
$510,190.22 to be paid to the Bank of America by June 28th.
