Cour.cil:an Irvin asked, when this was referred back by tbe City
Council, if it was only to be revie~ed by the H-Control or if it
was als~ to be reviewed again by the Planning Commission. Director
Sisk said the Use Perait has been approved by the Planning Com-
missi.'''; this does not automatically come before the City Council.
The Site Plan was reviewed by the Planning Director. He said the
build:"" has been relocated on the easterly portion of the property
with tee ~ays opening toward the Pay less store. Elevations were
disp~3yel. He said landscaping and signs are not a part of this
applic.;:iop.
Counci:=a~ [rvin asked H-Control Chairman Ryner why he voted
against t~is applicatio~. Chaircan Ryner said this provides an
isla,,¿ 3~J blocks the view. He preferred to have the building

with :els plan. The Planning Director said there would be 94.5 fep-t.
Counc~:"an Irvin felt this plan would create the same traffic flow

good .isibl~ity is to the right. He was more concerned about

for site, architecture, landscaping, lighting and signs for
reeodeling existing service station located at tbe nortbeast
corner of tbe iDtersection of Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road and
Stevens Creek Blvd. Re~nded for approval.
Colored slides were sbown of tbe station in question. Tbere was
an artist's rendering of approximately bow the station will look.
A site plan sbowed the proposed landscaping in the corner radius.
Discussions at the H-Control meeting resulted in additional
landscaping on tbp- northerly and easterly property lines.
Elevations sbowed the work to be done on the existing structure.
The H-Control conditions require the overhand to be videned and
tbe roof to be beefed up. Tbe overband is to be continued around
all four sides of tbe b~ilding. The colors were also changed to
eartb tone colors.
Councilman Irvin said he vould like to see Texaco get away from
that atrocious green color. The ground sign is cbanged in that
it has added beight and incorporates the pricing sign.
Mr. Robert Lee, of Robert Lee and Associates, Pier 40, San
Francisco, described tbe building materials: roof is dark brown
alUlllinum sbake. Texaco bas agreed to the H-Control co~ditions
of videning and extending the mansard roof. The green and red
colors will be abandoned and earth tones used. There is a problem
of space on the easterly property line. He said access to the
island on tbe nortb side of Stevens Creek Blvd. vould be impaired
by tbe addition of a planter. Low level ligbting viII be
installed at the approacbes and mercury vapoT lamps will be
eliminated.

Councilgan Frolicb said be vas sympathetic about tbe applicant's
position here. Tbe City staff feels the City's basic concern is
to assure that tbe shopping center develops in an integrated manner.
They feel the development of the proposed drive-in restaurant
facility would be inappropriate until sucb time as plans for the
major tenants of tbe center are approved and construction is under
way. Couacilman Frolich felt that if this appeal were granted
