In Seismic Design Categories De, D:, and D2, :t-.'1ethods GB, SFB, HPS, PBS, and CS-SFB are not p ermitted and the use of Method PCP is limited to one-story single family dwellings and accessory structures. Add the T footnote notation for ~'lethods GB , SFB, HPS, PBS , CS-SFB,. and PCP of Table R602.10 .4. Add a new subsection R602.10.4 .5 of the 2019 California Residential Code, to read as follows : R602 .10 .4.5 limits on methods GB, SFB, HPS, .PBS, CS-SFB and PCP. In Seismic Design Categories D.i, D:, and D2, .Methods GB , SFB, HPS, PBS, and CS-SFB are not permitted for use as intermittent braced wall panels, but gypswnboard is permitted to be installed when required by this Section to be placed on the opposite side of the studs from other ty pes of braced wall panel sheathing. An automatic res iden tial fire sprinkler system shall be installed in one-and two-family dwellings and Accessory Dwelling Units as follows: 1n all new one-and two-family dt\·ellings, .rebuild of existing one-and two-family dtvellings as defined by the Building Official. 1n all new basements and in existing basements that are expanded by more than 50~o. 1n all attached Accessory Dwelling Units and/or additions to an existing one-and two-family dwelling that have an existing fire sprinkler system. 1n all attached accessory dwelling units and/or additions to an existing non-sprinklered one-and two-family dwelling, when the building a.rea is increased to more than 3,600 square feet. Exception: One or more additions made to a building after January 1, 2011 that does not total more than 1,000 square feet of building area and meets all access and water supply requirements of Chapter 5 and Appendix Band C of the 2019 California Fire Code. Detached Aceesso1y Dwelling Units that meets the definition of an Aceessory Dwelling Unit as defined in the Government Code Section 65852 .2. Exception (Fire Sprinklers are not required if all the follot\·ing provisions are met): 1. The existing primary residence does not have automatic fire sprinklers; and 2. The accessory detached dwelling unit does not exceed 1,000 square feet in size; and 3. The unit is on the same lot as the primary residence; and 4. The unit meets all access and water supply requirements of Chapter 5 and Appendix Band C of the 2019 California Fire Code.
