Councilman Me"ers asked the staff to check with the Water Conser-
vation Distri~t about the omission of the definicion of "restrict-
ed areas". Ihis is i.. the State's guidelines. Another term for
"restricted areas" is "floodway".

The City Manager asked for continuance of this matter until the
uxt regular ceeting, although there may be persons in the
audience ~~o ~ished to discuss it, and perhaps they should be
heard. Mayor Irwin noted there were two letters from concerned
citizens in regard to the garbage service and rates.
Councilman Jackson noted the City Council has asked for quite a
bit of backup material, which is the reason for the postponement.

continue the Los Altos Garbage Company public hearing to January
21, 1974.

said he was appearing on behalf of Cabs Unlimited, In~orporated. Since
they took o"er this business in 1969 there has been no appreciablo
increase in business. The introduction of another cab company into this
cOllllDUnity .ill hurt Cabs Unlimited, Inc. He said the City of Sunnyvale
operates on tCQ cabs only, despite ~Jggestions from time to time to
allow others to come in. At the present time, there is no cab stand
in the comounity. However, there may be one near the new Hilton Hotel.
He said they do not believe anyone can operate any !DOre efficiently
than they d~. Profits are marginal, and they help it along with
deliveries. ~r. Gazzera quoted a portion of the Ordinance which
indicates t~t it is a basis for denial of L' application if the color
scheme is the same or similar to the existing cab company's. He
emphasized :.0 points: the lack of a need for the additional service.

Councilran Jackson asked Mr. Cazzera how possible gas rationing will
affect their supplies and what effect he feels it will have on the taxi
cab business. Mr. Gazzera said they will be allowed 94% of past supplies.
They anticipate being able to fill all needs of the citizens in the

Councilman Frolich noted that one reason for not encouraging taxi service
expansion is that dial-a-ride will have an adverse effect on cab companies.
t:Ouncilman Meyers sees a need for reciprocal 33reements between the taxi
cab companies. For instance, at the present tille, a taxi taking a San Jose
resident to the airport cannot take a Cupertino resident home from the
airport.

Councilman Frol1ch passed on the information that some apartments
in San Jose, just east of Bubb Road, on McClellan have put their
dumpsters in public view.
