Room C 10300 Torre Avenue Cupertino C U P E RT I N O September 23, 2019 ROLL CALL Present: Mahalingam, Kasametty, Chokshi, Dhami and Matley APPROVAL OF MINUTES i 1. Approval of the Draft Minutes of the August 26, 2019 meeting Motions: Commissioner Matley motioned and commissioner Chokshi seconded the motion to approve the minutes from the August 26, 2019 meeting. Motioned approved 5-0. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS WRITTEN COMMUNICATION it OLD BUSINESS 2. Subject: Updates on the Young Artist Award Program Commissioners discussed the Young Artist Award program including distribution of j the flyers to different groups and programs, social media, and anywhere else deemed appropriate. Commissioners discussed the theme "What makes me smile". NEW BUSINESS 3. Subject: Cupertino Marketing Project Staff member Brian Babcock, Public Information Officer (PIO), provided an overview of the City Council work item that included "Cupertino Store". The store would provide items that members of the public could purchase, and Staff is seeking input from the Fine Arts Commission on how to incorporate artwork into the items. Commissioners provided input as to what items could be sold such as an art catalog, key chains, phone holders, and bags. Cupertino Fine Arts Commission Page 2 Commissioner Matley asked what the goal of the work program item. Staff indicated that the goal is to provide items for purchase that is of high quality that could be presented and purchased by the public. Commissioner Kasamsmetty and Commissioner Dhami are to develop ideas and report back to the Fine Arts Commission in November. The following individual spoke on this item: Aleena Saha 4. Subject: Distinguished and Emerging Artist Artwork and Library Display Commissioners discussed outreach to individual award winners. Commissioners determined who would be contacting each award winner. Artwork is to be displayed in the library by November 2, 2019. Commissioner Matley discussed the process of placing the artwork in the library. Commissioners discussed the award presentation to City Council on November 5, 2019. Award winners, along with friends and family, and commissioners would meet at the City Hall Lobby, proceed to the Council meeting, and reconvene at the Cupertino Library to view the artwork display. 5. Subject: Art in Unexpected Places Recommended Action: Determine next steps for Art in Unexpected Places. Commissioner Chokshi and Matley are to take the lead in the work program item. The following individual spoke on this item: Aleena Saha 6. Sub-ject: Discuss proposal on how to showcase the film "Drawn Together: Comics, Diversity, and Stereotypes" from Harleen Singh Presentation by Director Harleen Singh about the film. Commissioners asked questions regarding the film to which the Director answered. STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS • Commissioner Chokshi reported on the upcoming Diwali Festival on October 12 • Vice-Chair Kasamsetty reported on "Happy Kids Day" • Commissioner Dhami reported on the Sikh Foundation's artwork exhibition at the Triton Museum • Chair Mahalingam reminded commissioners of the upcoming Commissioner Dinner on October 7, 2019 at the Quinlan Community Center Cupertino Fine Arts Commission Page 3 ADJOURNMENT Chair Mahalingam adjourned the meeting at 8:33 p.m. of the regular meeting on November 25, 2019 at City Hall, Conference Room C.
