that the Planning Commission.,.at their meeting on the

Exhibit A be deleted from the H-Control Ordinance,
Mr. Gunn said that was not his intention; it was
only to gain an interpretation of Item to
Chairman Horgan said that when the Committee set up
Item 1 of the 10 Standard Conditions,_ they were aiming
mostly at the air conditioner; on the roof; secondly,
they were aiming at apartment house builders who
sometimes put banks -of meters -"on the front of the
buildings, Iie said the Committee is trying to get the
builders to use parapets or screening of.some kind.
ME
Mr, Iuzum said -thy Commi-iI;tee is against a series of meter_ `
boxes in front, facing t1:lie street,, Mr. Gunn said it was
his contention this was Xbtty well covered under Sec. 7
of the Ordinance.
Chairman Horgan said ttie' Comm-1 tt c wants Item 1 left in
the 10 Standard Cona.tions because they ws.nt to be able
to control these appi,.-,:°teriances o if there are some cases
where it would be an un.d- -_' hardship -the Committee may
grant a variance.
Mr. Riddle said that snore' sort of screening is usually the
best solution to this proble«i, rather than insisting they
be recessed into -the grclnd or into the sides of buildings.
Both of these approaches can cause problems
Chairman Horgan said it ever
was o will be the intent to
require the meter boxes to'be .recessed into the sides of
buildings or into the ground Copies of these Minutes will
be sent to both Mr. Gunn.and Mr,, Riddle, and will serve as
an interpretation. of Item l of the H-Control Standard

Mr. Chescoe was asked if it was his intention to retain the
same type of architecture as in the existing buildings. He
answered that he intends to retain a similar character, some-
thing that will be compatible Since the existing classrooms
were built six years a.go., he li,7ould lit.e to update these new
ones, just as six years from now he would update any additional
buildings that might be added. He said there will be a break
between the older and new buildings with landscaping to help
make an easy transition.

V UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The Director of Planning presented the Committee with copies
of the draft of the Planning Commission Hearing on the previous
night regarding the Ordinance Redefining Architectural & Site
Control Procedures.
:The Committee went over the items, point by point, with the
Director. They all recognized the wisdom of publishing the
H-Control agendas to put the public "on notice", but feel there
are several problems in coordinating this. They feel it would
be best to publish the entire agenda, rather than try to weed
out only those applications which had not appeared on the
Planning Commission agenda within the last 30 calendar days.
They felt it would be helpful if the Planning Commission Chair-
man would ask the applicant at their public hearing if he wants
to go before the H-•Control the following night, which would
further alert the public,
® Chairman Horgan, speaking for the entire Committee, said they
feel very strongly about retaining the 10 Standard H-Control
Conditions in the Ordinance, They did agree that under Item 6,
the words "attached to buildings" could be deleted.
•
The Committee agreed to the new wording for Section 6:1 and 6:3.
They would like Section 6:2 to read as follows: "Applications
to the Architectural and Site Control Committee shall be ad-
vertised in the official newspaper of the City of Cupertino
at least three (3) days prior to the hearing .before the
Committee.
VI NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Nuzum will be unable to attend the meeting on May 25th
