Member McLaren informed the Committee that the Planning Commission is
making a study on service stations in the area and that she has some
information on a program for beautification started by some of the oil
companies in an effort to improve their image. Included are some sug-
gestions on how vacated service -stations can be demolished and another
use made of them. Mrs. McLaren said she is submitting copies of this
article to the Planning Commission and it is available to the members
of this Committee if desired.
Considerable discussion ensued, concerning the vacated service stations
in the area and the unsightly appearance of the Texaco Station at
Homestead Road and Highway 9.
Chairman Small inquired if the Texaco Service Station at Stevens Creek
Boulevard and Highway 9 had complied with the sign ordinance as directed.
Chief Building Inspector Benevich informed the Committee that he had
notified them of the sign requirements for the Foreign Car Service sign
which would be a 2' X 16' sign, or 64 square feet, and that he would
see that they conformed. He stated that he had found Texaco to be very
uncooperative.
.Chief Building Inspector Benevich requested a motion.from the Committee
bringing it to the attention of the Planning Commission that there is a
vacated service station within the Monta Vista area; if at all possible
to look -into this particular problem possibly revoking the Use Permit
or notify -the applicant at the time the'station.'is-reopened to`come be -
