CONSENT CALENDAR:
ITEM 1) APPLICATION ASAC 51 808.1 -- TANDEM COMPUTERS (SPEIKER
PARTNERS):
Requesting approval of a sign program for an existing office/industrial building located
on the east side of Tantau Avenue approximately 400 feet south of Pruneridge
Avenue. 10596 N. Tantau Avenue.
ENCLOSURES:

COMMENTS:
A. Applicant proposes an approximately 25 square foot monument sign. Sign is
consistent with the previously approved Tandem Computers sign programs.
Sign Program also contains a 13 square foot visitor parking directional sign.
B. Note that the north arrow on the site plan is incorrect. The building is on the east
side of Tantau Avenue.
RECOMMENDATION:
A. Staff recommends approval of Application ASAC 51,808.1 per the findings and
conditions contained within the enclosed model resolution.
B. The decision of ASAC is final unless appealed to City Council.
ITEM 2) APPLICATION ASAC 51,810.1 -- SOBRATO DEVELOPMENT:
Requesting approval of architectural and landscaping modifications to an existing
office/industrial building located on the west side of Bubb Road, approximately, 1000
feet north of McClellan Road. 10341 Bubb Road.

COMMENTS:
A. Applicant proposes the following modifications:

ITEM 3) APPLICATION 15-U-88 -- JOHN CHRISTENSEN:
Requesting approval of use permit to construct a 1790 square foot expansion to an
existing retail store and to construct site modifications. Site located on the west side
of South Saratoga -Sunnyvale Road, approximately 200 feet south of Wildflower Way.

of office buildings located within the Cupertino Town Center.

A. Project is located within the interior of the Cupertino Town Center complex. A

ITEM 5) APPLICATION ASAC 51,809.1 -- GANNETT OUTDOOR:
Requesting approval of a billboard to be located on the west side of South Saratoga -
Sunnyvale Road, approximately 350 feet north of Wildflower Avenue. 1325 S.
Saratoga -Sunnyvale Road.

0 COMMENTS:
A. Applicant proposes a 45'-6" high billboard sign adjacent to the existing services
station (see Exhibits). The sign will have multiple advertising display capability by
rotating the display surfaces.

49 B. The existing Sign Ordinance does not contain regulations which explicitly pertain
to billboards.
C. Staff believes that it should prepare a study on billboards and develop possible
policies and regulations.
RECOMMENDATION:
A. Staff recommends that ASAC continue the application for a 90-day period and
direct staff to undertake a study of billboard regulations.
ITEM 6) APPLICATION ASAC 51 811.1 -- THE OAKS CENTER (STONESON
DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION:
Requesting approval of a modification to an existing sign program to allow under-eave
tenant signs at the Oaks Center located generally at the northwest corner of Stevens
Creek Boulevard and Mary Avenue. 21255 - 21275 Stevens Creek Boulevard.

COMMENTS:
A. Applicant proposes under eave banner signs oriented to pedestrians (see
drawing). Each banner is approximately nine square feet in area. Signs will be
• color coordinated with the center's previously approved directories. The signs
will be in addition to the existing, internally -illuminated can -type signs.
B. Although the Sign Ordinance technically limits each tenant to one identification
sign, staff finds the proposal acceptable as the banner signs oriented to passing
pedestrians, not to the street or parking lot. The site's Planned Development
zoning grants the Committee authority to approve deviation from the ordinance
standards.
RECOMMENDATION:
A. Staff recommends approval of Application ASAC 51,811.1 per the findings and
conditions contained within the enclosed model resolution.
B. The decision of the Architectural and Site Approval Committee is final unless
appealed within five working days to City Council.
ITEM 7) APPLICATION ASAC 51 806.1 -- WELLS FARGO BANK (MINA -TREE
SIGNS. INC.):
Requesting approval of a new sign program for an existing bank/office building
located at the southeast corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Finch Avenue.

• COMMENTS:
A. The applicant proposes a modified sign program for the Wells Fargo Bank
(presently Barclay's Bank) portion of the Les Pavilions office complex. The
existing and proposed signage is summarized in the chart titled "Sign Legend"
on Exhibit F.

B. The existing ground sign is a non -conforming sign. The Sign Ordinance states
that existing non -conforming signs must be brought into conformance at such
time as there is a change of sign face. The subject application will increase the
size of the sign from 102 square feet to 114. The following chart summarizes the
sign proposal and Sign Ordinance provisions.

C. The site is located in a Planned Development zone; thus, ASAC has the authority
to approve deviations from the Ordinance requirements if the Committee can
make the appropriate findings.
RECOMMENDATION:
A. ASAC should continue the application and direct the applicant to submit a revised
proposal. The Committee should provide the applicant with guidance on size of
ground sign, size and number of building -mounted signs, and consistency with
the existing Les Pavilions building -mounted signs.
B. Staff has enclosed a model resolution approving the application should the
Committee elect to do so.
INFORMAL REVIEW:
ITEM 8) APPLICATION 14-U-88 -- DE ANZA COLLEGE:
Requesting approval of a comprehensive lighting plan for a temporary parking lot
located on the Highway 85 right-of-way. Lot located on the right-of-way north of
McClellan Road and south of Stevens Creek Boulevard.
