CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Chair Mohanty called the meeting to order at 7:11 pm

The Commission reordered the Agenda to hear New Business Item No. 5 first.
NEW BUSINESS
5. Subject:Receive a 5G Presentation from Sprint Management
Chair Mohanty introduced himself and provided information about the City of
Cupertino with regard to Smart Cities and 5G.
The following Sprint representatives introduced themselves: Ryan Sheppard, Govt Sales
West, George I Ghantous, Director Network Operations, Kindra Miller, Solution
Engineering Director, Christopher Felix,Vice President and General Manager, and Pat
Watkins, Head of IoT Sales
Staff Liaison Mr. Mitchell informed the Sprint representatives the City of Cupertino has
issued small cell permits to Verizon and AT&T, to push out 4G that will be replaced
with 5G. To further clarify the pole and the equipment will not be replaced. He further
informed that Transportation is an issue in the Bay area, and would like to bring a
regional solution that surrounding cities can tie into, such as Vision Zero. Vision Zero is

a multi-national road traffic safety project that aims to achieve a highway system with
no fatalities or serious injuries involving road traffic. Additionally, traffic calming
devices can be implemented during traffic peak hours.
During the discussion, Regional Sales Director Ryan Sheppard mentioned the following
projects in California that Sprint is currently managing:
• Ca1Net: State of California new contracting vehicle in place not only state but
also local municipalities allowing them to get solutions and services access to
tools
• Partner with Cities to provide Homeless Advocacy Support
• Law Enforcement Partnerships: Sprint has partnered with Law Enforcement in
California;Sherriff's Offices describe the partnership as a transformative process
partnering with customers and serving them
• Asset Management: Fleet management within cities thousands of assets moving
with with City to bring solutions fleet management assets moving around
• 1 Million Project: Providing High Schools in California options on how they want
to connect by providing products such as hotspots,tablets, etc.
Further in the discussion,George I Ghantous, Director Network Operations Mobile
reviewed 5G. He relayed the Company is moving toward 5G to meet the demand of
consumers. Sprint anticipates there will be over 20 Billion devices connected in the year
2020. Technically speaking, consumers want quicker load of Applications. Additionally,
autonomous vehicles will need a fast-reliable wireless network to operate. In an effort to
prepare for 5G, Sprint is strengthening their small cells by updating existing 4G towers
adding radio heads, antennas, and replacing equipment as needed.
Pat Watkins, Head of IoT Sales commented on the Sprint Partnership with the City of
Kansas City. She informed the Commission Sprint partnered with Kansas City in their
rollout to Smart City. Kendra detailed the City of Kansas City first deployment which
involved developing their Downtown area by connecting their transit and providing
public WiFi. Sprint provided the wireless fiber and supports Wi-Fi in that area,
additionally support the connectivity for the transit.
Following discussion, Sprint expressed they are looking for an easy permit process and
real estate. The Commission disclosed they will take into consideration Sprint as the
City moves forward with 5G and Smart Cities.

1. Subject: Approve Minutes from the May 1, 2019 meeting
Commissioner Soundararajan moved and Commissioner de Leon second to approve the
May 1 minutes. The motion passed 4-0-1.

This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the commission
on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three (3) minutes a person. In
most cases, state law will prohibit the commission from making any decisions with
respect to a matter not listed on the agenda.

2. Subject: Letter from AT&T dated May 16, 2019
The Commission received and filed the letter.
OLD BUSINESS
3. Subject: Discuss Commission Work Plan
1. Wireless Master Plan
Mr. Mitchell communicated a draft copy of the Request for Proposals (RFP) was sent to
the Commissioners, and further advise the development of Wireless Masterplan
Subcommittee to expedite the review process. Chair Mohanty appointed
Commissioners Bollineni and Ganga to be part of the subcommittee and meet with the
City's Chief Tecluzology Officer and City Engineer to evaluate the RFP.
2. Smart Cities and 5G
Chair Mohanty reported that he is in contact with Hitachi Vantara to coordinate a
presentation at an upcoming Commission meeting. The points of focus are: driverless
cars, traffic coordination, and intelligent video monitoring. Chair Mohanty will provide
Vantara's available dates to Staff Liaison who will push out a Doodle Poll.
3. City owned Fiber Network
Mr. Mitchell announced the proposed Special June meeting tentatively scheduled for
June 19, 2019 will have to be rescheduled due to a City Council Special meeting conflict.
Chair Mohanty directed staff to send out an additional doodle poll for late June. Two
items are scheduled for the Special meeting: a presentation from Tony with the City of
San Leandro, to discuss the challenges San Leandro faced building a City Owned Fiber

network and Cupertino's City Engineer will discuss a Public Private Partnership with
Verizon Wireless.
4. Internet Satisfaction Survey
Discussed below.
5. Subject: Subcommittee Report
A. Internet Needs in Cupertino:Staff Liaison Mitchell discussed the survey results.
B. Subject: Education: Staff Liaison Mitchell confirmed the Cybersecurity Presentation
by Consultant Nayaran Makaram has been confirmed for Tuesday,June 25, from 10 to
11 am. The presentation will be published in the City's media channels.
NEW BUSINESS
6. Receive a presentation from Information Security Professional, Narayan
Makaram,titled"Protect Yourself from being Hacked on the Wild Wild
Internet: Tope Ten ways to improve your Cyber Hygiene"
The Commission pulled the item from the Agenda.
7. Discuss request for a TICC Technology Policy
The Commission agreed to not move forward with a request to the Council for
provided Technology.
The Commission requested to limit the Agenda Packet copies to three for the public.
