He will bring a wonderful perspective to the commission . Thank you John Geis Cupertino Resident on Deep Cliffe Dr. Cyrah Caburian From: Sent: To: Subject: Council Members, Lori Ekman <lori .ekman@gmail.com > Saturday, January 25, 2020 11 :33 AM Cupertino City Manager's Office; City Clerk; City Council; Steven Scharf; Darcy Paul ; Liang Chao; Rod Sinks ; Jon Robert Willey Commission appointments I am writing to let you know my opposition to Tessa Parish for any commission. I have been bullied by her on nextdoor. She abused her lead status on nextdoor and after my complaints nextdoor removed her as a neighborhood lead. Her behavior on nextdoor is extremely antagonizing when she does not agree with neighbors. This form of behavior is not fitting for a commission. We have seen how appointing citizens with antagonizing behavior has played out in our city, with the appointment of R Wang. We do not need a repeat of that. Thanks, Gilee From : Kirsten Squarcia <KirstenS@cupertino.org > Sent: Monday, January 27, 2020 8:44 PM To: Gilee Corral <GileeC@cupertino.org > Subject: Sustainability Hi Gilee, Can you explain what the Sustainability Commission educational rep does that distinguishes itself from a regular commission member? The educational rep takes a leadership role on programs, projects, and subjects that relate to K-12 education and students. They typically serve on subcommittees related to educational programs, i.e. student green grants, waste audits in the schools, and student essay contests . They act as a liaison with the schools and educational stakeholders for Commission business. What do we expect them to offer? We expect them to help us to connect with school representatives, to have ideas on how to involve the schools in our programs, to take a leadership role in organizing initiatives that involve education , and to advocate for schools/ students on the Commission . Do we expect them to communicate with the school district regularly? If yes, how does the communication happen? Speaking for myself, I would expect the educational rep to be able to have some connectio ns with the school district, and to be able to commun icate with them and bring back ideas on how to connect w ith the schools to inform their work as a Commiss ioner. After reviewing the most recent Council meeting, staff report from that meeting and the Housing commission recommendations. Proposed Solutions: 1. It is mentioned that a long list of bills have been passed to promote housing, ADUs etc. I would like to propose having the housing committee investigate, what Gov grants, AND what other funds might be available for investing into affordable housing. We need to go out and get it. 2. The Housing Committee could reach out to the Tech giants: Face book, Google & Apple to see how we might avail ourselves of the millions of dollars being donated for affordable housing-Housing Trust Silicon Valley or Donors. I feel like there is a lot of interest in housing and I feel like there is a lot of money out there, there should be a way to build our share of affordable housing without asking the City to pay for it or be forced to provide incentives to developers to offset the costs. I feel like it is the commissions' job to provide solutions rather than problems. Thank you for your consideration, Tessa Parish Resident of Cupertino
