Dear city clerk and council,
I’m glad to see the state, city, and above all the county take swift action to soften the blow of COVID‐19 to our
communities.
My primary concern at this point is what businesses are open that shouldn’t be, and I’m afraid we’ll be seeing
misclassifications of business necessity that's akin to GameStop (which tried to get itself considered an essential
business) across the nation. Cities must act to stop these at the source.
Operating or visiting ice cream/frozen yogurt stores, beauty salons, or tea parlors at this point in the pandemic is
simply reckless. Allowing these businesses to continue to operate will increase spread of COVID‐19 and is therefore
tantamount to criminal negligence. Therefore, as painful as it may be, the city must take swift action to close these
businesses for the time being.
The council should also consider tightening rules around farmers’ markets.
