Dear Mayor Scharf, Council Members and Staff,
PLEASE stop approving increases to utilities when people lucky enough to have jobs and those on fixed incomes do not
get a corresponding increase in income!
This Recology increase is OVER 10% in 2 years because 5% is then compounded the next year.
REVIEW OF RECENT UTILITY INCREASES
‐ Cupertino Sanitary District is asking for a 9.97% increase for residential service from $48.40/month to $52.23/month
for residential units!
‐ Clean Water and Storm Protection Fee went from $12 to $44! = 367% increase!
‐ Cupertino Sanitary (Sewer) District has asked for a $4.83/month increase ($57.96/year) which is almost a 10% increase
(9.97%)!
‐ Recology fees increased in Fall of 2019 then again early in 2020 and now you are looking at blessing another >10%
increase over 2 years! REALLY?!?!?!?
All these increases add up but our incomes are NOT keeping up with this. Many people have lost their jobs. Many
businesses are struggling.
Q1: How can you increase these Recology fees?!?!
Sincerely,
Peggy Griffin
NOTE1: The Palo Alto fee should be thrown out because it is way more than our neighboring cities. If that’s the case,
the average would be $33.45.
