Brush Abatement Program●Wildland urban interface (WUI) fires are agrowing community problem.●Wildfires occur in the vicinity of Cupertino andpresent a danger to people and propertieswithin the city.●County Fire has the authority and responsibilityto provide for life safety and protection ofproperty.●City Code 16.40.320 requires homeowners tomaintain defensible space by removing brush.

Inspection Schedule●February 28, letters mailed to all Cupertino propertyowners.●April 1, County Fire begins conducting propertyinspections.●June 1, re-inspection of non-compliant properties.●May 11 - June 16, notices mailed to non-compliantproperty owners.
Recommended Action:1. Conduct Brush Abatement Program hearingto note objections of property owners havingtheir name on the list of properties that havebeen non-compliant in removing brush; and2. Adopt Resolution No. 20-083 orderingabatement of public nuisance and potential firehazard pursuant to Cupertino Municipal Code(Section 16.40.320) regarding defensible space(brush) and Resolution No. 20-044.
