Hello, hope this message finds you safe and well.
i heard that there are requests to defund police in Cupertino and became very concerned. I am in full support of social
justice for all and stop police brutality movement in trend right now.
Having said that, i do not think defund the police will help to achieve those objectives at all.
Currently police is essential in maintaining neighborhood safety.
Instead, before any decision to defund the police, maybe we can review the police conduct sand see if there is any
misconduct in Cupertino police, and keep the review process and results transparent to the public, then we will go from
there. it does not make sense to call for “defund the cupertino police” without any facts/basis or data in cupertino. it
does not make sense to Decide on cupertino police based on what is happening in Minneapolis or other places.
my 2 cents,
take care and keep safe,
thanks,
yan

Hi, Mr. and Mrs,
The police play the very impotent role at our community, to keep the public safety. During the pandemic, we
are especially realized and depended on our police department.
The duty of police at our modern life are so essential and can not miss any part:
Protects life and property through the enforcement of laws & regulations; Proactively patrols
assigned areas
Responds to calls for police service
Conducts preliminary & follow-up criminal and traffic investigations
Conducts interviews
Prepares written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities
Arrest and processes criminals
Testifies in court
Emergency duties required during adverse weather conditions
Ability to exercise judgment in determining when to use force and to what degree
Operate a law enforcement vehicle under emergency conditions day or night
Comprehending legal documents including citations, affidavits, warrants and other
documents.
Commanding emergency personnel at accident emergencies and disasters
Takes an active role in Community Oriented Policing on campus
Self initiate traffic and/or criminal investigations.
Please keep and even reinforce our police, please do not defund and weaken them. they protect our daily life.
we highly respect them. otherwise, when we have dangers or problems, who can come to help us? Like any of
other people, they may have mistake, please let public to help them to correct mistakes. let's work together to
make our police to maintain social order and protect personal safety more effectively.
Thank you for your consideration.
Susan Chen,
Cupertino citizen

Dear City Officials,
During this time, we are very concerned with the safety of our city even with the protection of the current police force.
It’s absolutely not the time to defund the police, because it will put our lives and safety at high risk. The criminals will
take advantage of less police force and the relaxed community policies if you let it happen. There are quite a lot of hate
crimes and vandalism among other crimes lately. We really need our police to prevent the crimes from getting worse.
Please do the right thing and never defund our police.
Thank you for ensuring safety for everyone in Cupertino!
Regards,
Christine & Issac

To help protect yMicrosoft Office pautomatic downlopicture from the
Dear Sir or Madam, I strongly disagree with striping the police of their power. They don’t use
their power to hurt us, but to protect us from danger. If there were no police, no one would be
able to arrest a criminal but the government and the government might be busy and not see this
case until days or perhaps weeks after someone was hurt or somethings been stolen. The
police always come and check on us elementary schools students when we have a lock-down
rehearsal. They give me a sense of security and I know they will be there when a criminal really
comes to the school and a lock-down really happens. When there is a car accident, the police
will come and sort the problem out. I believe they are just and help our community fit with one
another. Without the police, there will be chaos. I think the police is very brave and should keep
the power of being fair.
Sincerely Saoirse
