Education and Qualifications:
Schools, traffic, reckless development, the environment, and economic uncertainty are Cupertino residents' concerns . Our
City Council is now resident-focused. We adopted Objective Standards, preventing exploitative development. We funded
library expansion, parkland, & bicycle infrastructure .
We're addressing Lehigh's environmental issues. We're encouraging community-backed alternatives to Vallco's SB35
project, advocating for affordable housing for families and lower height. We're partnering with nonprofits to build housing for
the developmentally-disabled.
Cupertino is financially sound, thanks to responsible spending, but Covid is causing permanent changes in housing, retail,
office, and transportation.
Development must fund infrastructure: schools, libraries, parks, roads, transit, and water. We must thwart developer-and
Wall-Street-backed special interest groups that promote divisiveness and that oppose inclusion and affordable housing. We
can collaborate to create a better Cupertino for all.
Our Legislative Review Committee, on which I serve, evaluates State legislation. Unfortunately, wealthy special interests
promote harmful laws that hurt the most vulnerable Californians. We must challenge unfunded and exploitative laws and
mandates, advocate for local control, and protect the California Environmental Quality Act that is under attack by the
Legislature .
I'll continue advocating for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and sustainability. I'm honored to have served as Cupertino's
mayor as we've navigated challenging times. http://scharf4cupertino.com.
