FAC 01-24-2022CITY OF DRAFT MINUTES FINE ARTS COMMISSION [1 Monday, January 24, 2022 6:30 p.m. CUPERTINO FINE ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER At 6:31 p.m., Chair Kasamsetty called the meeting to order via virtual teleconference. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Sudha Kasamsetty, Janki Chokshi, Satish Tare, Diana Matley, Esha Rao Commissioners Absent: None Staff Present: Joanne Magrini, Rachelle Sander CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Subject: Meeting Minutes for the November 22, 2021 Fine Arts Commission Meeting Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes for the November 22, 2021 Fine Arts Commission meeting. Vice Chair Chokshi motioned to approve the minutes. Chair Kasamsetty seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. POSTPONEMENTS None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None OLD BUSINESS 2. Subject: Update on Art Talks and Art in Unexpected Places Recommended Action: Receive an update on the Art Talks and Art in Unexpected Places Programs. Joanne Magrini, Director of Parks and Recreation, gave an update on the item, informing commissioners of the former liaisons departure from the city and that the two programs will be put on hold until the department is fully staffed, and indoor events are safer due to the pandemic. Commissioner Tare will provide the music art talk when they resume. 3. Subject: Update on the City Work Program Fiscal Year 2021-2022 item for the Fine Arts Commission Recommended Action: Receive an update on the City Work Program Fiscal Year 2021- 2022 item for the Fine Arts Commission and provide feedback. Director Magrini updated the commission on the City Work Program Fiscal Year 2021-2022 item for the Fine Arts Commission. Director Magrini shared art commission names in surrounding cities and asked that the commission provide no more than three possibilities for the Fine Arts Commission Name Change. Chair Kasamsetty motioned that the commission put forward two options for the name change. Arts and Culture Commission as first choice and Culture, Visual, and Performing Arts Commission as the second. Commissioner Rao Seconded. Motion passed unanimously. NEW BUSINESS 4. Subject: Commission Proposals for the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 City Work Program Recommended Action: Provide a list of proposed items for the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 City Work Program, identifying the top three proposals, limited to no more than five. Director Magrini presented on the Commission proposals for the City Work Program FY 2022- 2023. Chair Kasamsetty motioned to approve four proposals in priority order of Young Artist Scholarships, Festival that is run buy Fine Arts Commission, Community Grants for Organizations that foster art in Cupertino, and Art Store for Cupertino. Vice Chair Chokshi seconded. Motion passed unanimously. STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS 5. Subject: Monthly Update Reports Recommended Action: Receive monthly update reports from staff and commissioners. Vice Chair Chokshi stated she attended the January Mayor's Meeting. Commissioners and staff thanked Commissioner Matley for her service to the commission. COMMISSIONER ATTENDANCE AT UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS Commissioners discussed attendance for the upcoming Mayor's meetings.
