Sign exception for two wall signs for a total of four wall signs, where two signs
are permitted and for three signs to exceed the maximum height limitation at an
existing commercial building.

Staff member Chao explained that the applicant is requesting the exception due to the
orientation of the building on the lot. Because it is near the curve in the road, the
building sits at about a 45-degree angel from the street. The sign ordinance states that
each tenant may have a sign, but the placement of wall signs at this angle, makes it
difficult for costumers to see them. Commissioner Saadati asked for clarification on one
of the pages of the plan set in regards to lettering and coloring of the proposed signs.
Staff member Chao stated that the proposed signs are compatible in terms of the
designs and mounting mechanisms. Usually flexibilities are given to the coloring and
the styling of the signs for each tenant. Both Chairperson Giefer and Commissioner
Saadati supported approval of the application. They felt the additional signage would
help potential customers find the stores in the center better and that the signs were
proportional to the building facades.
