FY 22-23 City Work Program Item Student Internship Program_Staff PresentationNovember 1, 2022 FY 22-23 City Work Program item: Student Internship Program Acting Assistant to the City Manager, Astrid Robles Budget: $15,000 FY 2022 -2023 City Work Program Pilot Summer Program •Mayor piloted 2022 summer internship program •4 high school interns participated •Prior summer events: -Mayor’s Cup Challenge -Angel Island Excursion •Summer events: -Library Expansion Follow Up -Farmer’s Market Ribbon Cutting -AR/VR Hackathon Volunteer Intern Process Policy •Effective November 2018 •Unpaid volunteer interns •Allows two interns per hiring manager/Councilmember •Recommend updating existing policy to include summer internship program criteria Recommended Intern Selection Criteria •14-yrs+ high school students, Cupertino residents •A one-, two-, or three-week period each year. •60 hours max, averaging 20 hours per week. •Report to Councilmember and work with a City department on specifically identified projects. •Application and selection process on March 1 •Work with Fremont Union High School District Recommended Action Direct staff to: 1.Proceed with developing the Student Internship Program by incorporating criteria from the 2022 summer intern pilot program and the existing Volunteer Intern Policy (Attachment A); and 2.Form a subcommittee to guide the final candidate selection process Questions?
