The following is an outline of the Art in Private Development Ordinance requirements:
r The artwork must be easily visible to the public. It should be located in a prominent
location. Prominent locations could include a location near the main entrance point
of the development, near the front entrance to the building, or on a major street
corner. The artwork should also make a major statement.
The artwork must be appropriate for the selected site. It should be proportional in
size to the scale of the development, and it should aesthetically enhance the
surrounding area.
➢ The artwork must be designed by an artist with experience in public art and
knowledge of large-scale artworks.
Installation of the art piece shall be implemented to enhance the artwork and allow
for unobstructed public viewing.
The artwork should be of permanent materials and require a low level of
maintenance.
➢ Expressions of obvious bad taste or profanity will not be approved.
A m inimum expenditure equal to 1% of the B uilding Permit Valuation is required.
Any difference between the 1 % required expenditure and the actual cost of the
artwork will be paid to the city's Public Art Fund. Proof of the 1 % expenditure will be
required.
➢ The developer will be required to provide appropriate lighting, as well as appropriate
signage identifying the artwork. The developer will also be responsible for
maintaining the piece.

The property owner is required to register the Artwork, and the subsequent art
requirement, with the County recorder.
