SUITE 200 286-4555 925 REGENT STREET -SAN JOSE, CA. 95110 Land Planning Land Surveying March 5, 1985 circ PUL -u; V1. 0--\ Attn: Mr. Travice Whitten Re: Our #2659 Foothill Blvd. Medians We appreciate the City providing us the opportunity to submit a proposal for the median design work on Foothill Blvd. from Stevens Creek Blvd. to Cristo Rey Drive. We have examined the site in the field and reviewed the City's aerial maps wherein you have delineated the proposed median system. We propose the following scope of work in order to complete the necessary plans and special provisions for the project. A new topographic base map would be prepared based upon an aerial photo- grammetric flight. These drawings would consist of plan profile sheets at 1" = 40' scale with one foot contours. This should provide sufficient data to study the drainage on Foothill Blvd. and design the necessary street widening in the vicinity of Poppy, both on the East and West side. Where additional spot grades are necessary, our field crew will complete this work. The aerial flight would be done by Cartwright Aerial Surveys with field control by our own crew. Since the amount of asphalt to be removed represents a significant amount of the cost for the project, it is felt a detailed boring log would be important. Terratech, Inc. has been contacted and would provide the necessary boring services with one hole every 100 feet at the price if $2,500.00. Our office would complete the design work and prepare the improvement plans utilizing both the City's aerial photos and the above photogrammetric maps. The medians would be designed per the City criteria as outlined on the referenced photo maps. Our work would also include preparation of street widening plans on the west side of Foothill Blvd. at Poppy. We understand that the City will be acquiring the two lots necessary for the widening operation. In examining the property in the field, we feel the City may have to provide for the additional street work on Poppy to insure a reasonable grade and transition for the new widening. We feel it may also be necessary to re -construct a portion of the driveway entrances to both of these lots. Obviously, this connot be determined until the detailed survey has been completed. The widening on the East side of Poppy would also be incorporated into the plans, if the parties there agreed to providing the necessary right-of-way. Our costs do not include preparation of the right-of-way documents but, would do so at an additional fee of $300.00 if required. In the event a retaining wall is necessary in order to permit this widening, a retaining wall design would be required unless the City has a "boiler plate" design that could be utilized. March 5, 1985 Page 2 If not, an additional $500.00 could be necessary for the retaining wall design. In conjunction with the median work, we would complete a drainage design for the island. Incorporated into this design would be evaluation of possible modifications in the drainage system along Foothill Blvd. in order to divert water to Foothill Blvd. which presently drains into the Sunnyview Manor project. It would be understood that the City would provide our office with improvement plans and record maps for all projects abutting the project. This information would be necessary in order to complete our horizontal and vertical control work for the aerial flight and for the median design. It would also be very important in evaluating the drainage of the area. Our fee for providing the above scope of work would be $18,000.00. In addition to this amount, an additional $3,050.00 must be budgeted for Cartwright Aerial Surveys and $2,500.00 to Terratech, Inc. Thank you again for considering us for this work. We look forward to working with the City on this project. Very truly yours, ROBERT G. McDERMOTT 114, C/U/40- WILLIAM E. HEISS RGM W EH/nr JENNINGS - McDERMOTT - HEISS, INC.
